Feinstein Takes Aim At The 2nd Amendment

Here is it folks… Feinstein wants to obliterate your ability to purchase firearms. If you are unaware of what NFA weapons require, it is a lengthy and costly process, it usually takes at least 4-6 months. Your local law enforcement must approve the purchase, you have to provide photos, fingerprints, and are subjected to a lengthy federal background check before approval. Even the idea that they would allow grandfathered weapons is a farce. Under the current NFA system, it takes months, the flood of registrations would lead to YEARS of backlog, not even mentioning any new purchases. It is exactly the type of infringement the 2nd Amendment was designed to prevent. She wants to make it so difficult to purchase or possess a firearm, that most would forfeit or become felons once the new law is enacted. It is an ill-conceived plan, and would do nothing to prevent crime (just ask Harvard:

Feinstein’s Proposal…

The failing of the types of studies she cites are that in places where firearms are restricted, there may be fewer gun deaths but violent crimes against the public immediately increase. It is as if they don’t care that the public is at risk for robbery, rape, death, etc, as long as there is a lower chance they will be killed in a certain way.

According to the FBI’s records, 323 people were murdered with rifles in 2011. Twice as many people were killed by fists than rifles last year. Where is the call for banning assault limbs? Death by blunt instruments were also more numerous than by rifles.

What about Sandy Hook? The crisis that the left has seized to destroy the constitutional rights of hundreds of millions was perpetrated by a crazy person. It started when he killed his own mother with a lowly .22. While there have been many reports of a Bushmaster AR-15 at the scene, all the initial reports stated that the murders were committed with 2 semiautomatic pistols. The weapon being pulled from the trunk is not an AR-15. I hate to think that the media is distorting the truth to effect the public’s opinion on these issues. Actually, no, I completely believe the media and their cohorts in government will stoop to any level to exert the type of control that will bring us closer to being subjects in their utopia. I sincerely hope that people will consider the true impact of the the asinine measures certain lawmakers are calling for, and the hypocrisy of people like President Obama, and NY Mayor Bloomberg, who are protected, as are their children, by armed men at all times. Obama even saw fit to joke about it with Barbara Walters. Ha ha, you self-righteous fool. How nice to be more equal then the simple peasant children in public school.

Holder: executive actions to be considered on gun violence

This is where the rubber meets the road. An extralegal order to circumvent the 2nd Amendment could be on the way.

(Reuters) – The Obama administration will consider executive actions and specific proposals for legislation as part of its gun policy response to the school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said on Wednesday.

Holder, who has been a vocal proponent of a new ban on certain semiautomatic rifles, told reporters that a range of options need to be considered in the coming weeks.

Those options will have to include a “strong and robust” Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the chronically under-funded agency that enforces federal gun laws, he said.

“It’s clear that we need to do more,” Holder said. He did not specifically call on Wednesday for a return of the assault weapon ban.

Senator Yee Strikes Back

Aside from the federal threats, those of us in California are really at risk from the local politicians. Yee and his cohorts are coming after semi-automatics, and ammunition. Insanity.

Yee says more gun control is on the way, plans to introduce legislation to require “yearly registration and background checks for gun ownership” as well as new trigger lock and storage requirements.

And So It Begins…

We know that there have been machinations behind the scenes since the election to institute a new AWB, now the devastating events in Newtown have prompted a series of rash actions by private companies, and I shudder to think what may be coming from the government. There has been a call for a renewal of the AWB from pundits and lawmakers, despite the fact that the shooter in CT did not even use his rifle. Rifles are rarely used in homicides, mainly due to the difficulty in concealing them:

Of 12,664 murder victims last year, only 323 were killed with rifles, according to the FBI.

Feinstein has been itching to implement national restrictions, the same types we have in CA, that do nothing to prevent criminal activity. Companies in the industry are running scared, WalMart and Dick’s sporting goods are pulling rifles off the shelf, Cerberus is preparing to sell Freedom Group, which includes Remington and Bushmaster.

As the left was ridiculing anyone who dared fear the 2nd Amendment was in jeopardy as paranoid, the words of Rahm Emanuel echoed in the minds of those who are more informed on these issues:

You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.

And here we are. Will America’s citizens forfeit their ability to defend themselves against tyranny, in spite of the glaring facts about gun control’s failures? Will the media report the countless incidents where firearms save lives, such as the CCW holder who ended the shootings in OR by simply presenting his weapon? It is incredibly important that we are vigilant in defending the 2nd Amendment. Not only will restrictions fail to deter a determined killer, it will strip away the clout of all other amendments. America, don’t follow the sad footprints of the UK and Australia.

But we need to be more like Europe, right? Wrong.

The slaughter of children is sufficiently rare in the West that it overwhelms us with horror and grief. There have been five school shootings in Europe during the past 10 years with 10 or more dead, and two in the United States – the 2007 Virginia Tech incident and the Sandy Hook shootings. Despite its much stricter gun control, Europe has been the scene of more mass school killings than the United States. We Americans would be fooling ourselves to think that stricter gun laws would help.

Creating difficulty in obtaining firearms for the law abiding citizen will not deter a criminal. Murder is already illegal. I don’t know how many more ways to say it… new gun legislation will not prevent crime or murder, it will only help a few busybodies in DC feel like they have done something.
