Door to Door Student Got More Than He Bargained For

As I was working on some web updates for my cousin’s site at Ballistic HQ, there was a knock at the door. A young man, with a planner, and some big hair, stood on the doorstep. How he made it to the front door of the compound, I can’t say. Apparently, the little deer statue in the bushes didn’t deter him. He began his pitch by stating that his mom walks her yorkie through the neighborhood and says that everyone is nice. I was wondering if the dog was missing at this point. He then goes on to say that he is part of a young entrepreneur’s club, handed me a card by which I could identify him if I needed to “go looking for him.”

Hmmm… I thought it strange that I would need to track him down. He stated that they are raising money to go to Browning. Asking if I was familiar with the company, I asked if it was the firearms manufacturer, which of course I am familiar with. I thought he said they were going to Britain, but maybe it was Belgium, since that is where Browning’s (FN) parent company is located. Regardless, he mentioned that they were going to learn about management. At this point, the speech was getting a little convoluted, so I cut him off, “What do you need from me?” The list of magazines was presented. “I’m not buying a magazine subscription, can I just give you some money?” There is a service that sends magazines to service members overseas if I would prefer. Excellent.

He went out of his way to mention that he would not be handling any weapons, some people are “up in arms” about the fact they are visiting a firearms mfg. I told him I am ALWAYS up in arms. This was met with a puzzled look as I stepped from the door and mentioned that I’m an entrepreneur myself. I showed him my shirts, he exclaimed in the positive. I asked him what size he wears, and threw him a L Costa Edition shirt. I asked him to force some social media stuff on his friends, and told him I hoped he got to handle all the cool firearms they have.

I realize now that I should have snapped a picture with his score, but I wasn’t thinking about it at the time. Wherever you are, puffy haired neighbor kid, remember it is your right by birth, recognized by the US Constitution, to be up in arms. What a sad state of affairs that he has to go through the neighbor pretending to not be excited about visiting a firearms manufacturer. I hope he gets the funds he needs and has a blast in Europe.

On The Starbucks Letter

On the one hand, agree with this poster from a forum:

The gay marriage zealots seemed pretty weird to most when they started agitating for their cause. Today gay marriage is rapidly becoming the law of the land.

I support these open carry agitators. They are exercising a constitutionally-protected right. Much better to get challenges to the law pushed up to SCOTUS now than any time in the foreseeable future since this court has ruled recently and consistently in favor of a literal interpretation of the 2nd amendment that protects individuals’ right to keep and bear arms.

On the other hand, I don’t trust most people to not be idiots, that goes for NDing gun owners; when I see pictures like these, I can understand why people who are unfamiliar with firearms would be uncomfortable (pics heisted from http://practicaltacticalpodcast.com/starbucks/):

Now, I don’t drink coffee, and I have better things to spend $5 on, and better ways to consume 1000 calories, so in the most immediate sense, a gun unfriendly Starbucks doesn’t mean much to me. Hell, I live in CA, the air I breathe is anti-gun. However, part of winning people to our side is helping them understand that gun owners are everyday, normal people, and not the caricature portrayed by frothing at the mouth HuffPo contributors.

I take my responsibility as a gun owner seriously.  I take gun safety seriously.  I just don’t see how taking your no-sling AR to Starbucks makes any practical sense.   To be part of the solution, you gotta have a modicum of situational awareness, and these people seem be lacking.

New Header at Lightfighter.com

Is that actually news?  Probably not, but since one might recognize that rifle illustration from the Ballistic Pest Control shirt, one may realize the source of that new header.

Give up? It was your very own AngryAl!

What is the Lightfighter blog? It is sort of a delivery system for some of the very good info found on the Lightfighter.net forums, but packaged for public consumption:

Lightfighter is a community made up of military, law enforcement and industry professionals whose crusade is to get high quality, proven information into the hands and minds of those who want to learn. There are right and wrong ways to do everything, and the right way is often borne of blood, sweat and tears. The idea is to shorten the learning curve with good gouge. Our contributors come from diverse backgrounds: current and retired military from combat arms fields, law enforcement experience from officers working the streets every day, to detectives, to SWAT team members; assaulters, team leaders and commanders. We have trainers from a deep and wide breadth of experience and vetted backgrounds. If you see it posted on the Lightfighter Blog, you can take it to the bank and treat it as gospel.

Definitely check out the header, then do a little reading.  There isn’t a ton there yet, but it will grow to be an awesome resource.

9/11

It’s been 12 years since the attack on the WTC, 1 since Benghazi.  Those responsible for the original 9/11 are largely dead, while the administration refuses to acknowledge the 2012 was anything but a speedbump.  It is up to us, the citizens of the nation, to remain vigilant as we have threats to our way of life coming from all sides.  We  have given up liberty for security theater, meanwhile the national interests of our country are not even defended by those we have tasked to do so.  They allow AQ to attack a US Consulate, not even a year later John McCain is pushing to arm the very same group against Assad.  Insanity.

On the home front, CA is on the verge of sending the 2nd AM into the shredder.  It has been bad, it appears it will be a whole lot worse.  In one shining ray of light, CO recalled two state senators who overstepped what their constituents were willing to bear in regards to eroding the liberties enumerated by the Bill of Rights.  Perhaps there is hope after all.

Dissipator Love

dissy

What is a dissipator?  It is an AR-15 that uses the same carbine gas system found on the M4 carbine, but with the rifle length handguard found on the M16, while maintaining the fixed front site base.  What is the purpose?  The dissipator allows the user the ability to extend the support hand much further than an AR-15 with the standard carbine length handguard, provides a longer sight radius, and keeps the always ready standard front sight configuration.
